Looking to the future

Total Global Steel was formed in 1999, and since its inception has grown to become one of the UK's foremost independant Structural Steel Traders specialising in physical metal trading, futures and hedging, online trading and LME brokerage.

What We Do

Energy Trading

Total Global Steel recently expanded into the energy market, dedicating time to address the pressing importance of environmental issues, enabling the group to take responsibility in limiting the increase of CO2 into the world’s atmosphere; reducing our own carbon foot print as well as others. Our clients range from small business to large corporate groups.

With the metal industry being one of the largest consumers of energy globally there is an immediate synergy between the two markets. The production of Aluminum for example is extremely energy intensive and Aluminum plants are often located close to hydro electric power plants. The industry is responsible for high volumes of emissions and has a large “carbon footprint”.

Total Global Steel has a competent emissions trading desk, is a member of the European Climate Exchange and a trading member of a number of Exchanges that trade emissions. The team can advice on strategies, take surplus product to market or acquire allowances to meet your shortfalls. Investment in new technologies and processes can result in a reduction of a producer’s footprint. These reductions can be certified and taken to market, thus offsetting the cost of the reduction.

The deregulation of Power supplies in Europe and the growing liquidity on the various energy exchanges opens up the possibilities for long and short term strategies for metal producers. The ability to lock in forward prices and create hedging strategies for future power requirements is very attractive. We provide full access to these markets for our clients, allowing them the benefit of our trading expertise. We welcome both market speculation for investors and hedging and delivery possibilities for consumers.

As part of our ongoing commitment to the environment we are constantly looking at renewable energy sources. The company is currently in negotiations relating to various forestry projects; one being at our own mining site in the Sula Mountains in Sierra Leone. This is a 100 square kilometer site where upon completion of extraction of Iron Ore we will embark on a reforestation program.
